Buffalo Farm is a family-owned and operated fresh produce stand located in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, that has been serving our community for generations.
Meet Johnny, his wife Mary Ann, and Aunt Mona. Their ancestors settled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains long before the United States of America even existed on a map. Generations of blood, sweat, and tears are priceless—and so is the knowledge and honest-to-God heritage earned by working this land and serving the TR community.
Our Roots Run Deep
Johnny's heritage is deeply tied to these mountains through his proud Cherokee lineage, which includes the Spillcorn, Walkingstick, Climbing Bear, Hornbuckle, and Owl families. This isn't just a place we moved to; it is the ground our families have walked for centuries.
Why Buffalo Farm?
Over 250 years ago, American Bison roamed the native Cherokee and Catawba lands of South Carolina. Although they were no longer seen in the area by the mid-1800s, Travelers Rest was once part of their grand range. In fact, the very trails that became our modern mountain roads and highways were originally blazed by the great American Buffalo.
Aunt Mona and her late husband, Joe, are true local legends. For decades, they owned and operated the historic Teddy Bear Motel, welcoming travelers to the mountain corridor. When they retired, they followed their passion and established a physical Buffalo Ranch right here on US-25. While the bison herd moved on after Joe’s passing in 2007, that deep grit and entrepreneurial spirit live on through the Buffalo Farm fresh produce stand today.
